Getting There – Transport

Getting To and Around Istanbul

Getting to Istanbul is not difficult these days. The city has two international airports (Atatürk International Airport (IST) – Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW)), two bus stations (in Esenler and Harem), and two international railway stations. Summer visitors enjoy taking the ferry from place to place, and from May through September there is always a Bosphorus boat tour available from 11am to around 8pm. Car trips around Istanbul can be an adventure since the traffic can test the patience of any driver, but some visitors choose to travel by car in order to tour and enjoy every inch of the city. Taxis are another option, but some taxi drivers are crazy drivers and other drivers are scam artists, so visitors must make sure the meter is running or the trip can get expensive and extremely frustrating.
